Command Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Mendoza, Fort Bliss Garrison command sergeant major, speaks to a crowd of children and parents during a celebration at the Main Child Development Center on West Fort Bliss April 2.. The event began with a parade and performances by the center’s children before the signing of the proclamation. The proclamation honors the sacrifices and challenges military children make and highlights the important role they play in the Army family.

“Even though your mom or dad, or both, wear a uniform every day, you serve too and this is your special month,” Mendoza told the children. “A whole month dedicated to honoring you. That just shows how special each and every one of you are.”

Each April, military children are honored across the Department of Defense with a month of activities designed to pay tribute to their specific struggles, determination, and resilience. To learn more about Month of the Military Child activities, go to www.blissmwr.com or www.facebook.com/blissmwr.
