The Sgt. Roberto Loeza Soldier Activity Center, commonly called the SAC, on East Fort Bliss has many services available to increase the quality of life for Soldiers and families.
Costing nearly $8 million to construct, the facility features a full-size basketball court that also serves as a multifunctional room for indoor soccer and dodgeball. People can rent it for $25. In addition, people can rent a classroom for $25.
Brian Arnold, facility manager, said he recommends booking the court or classroom at least two weeks in advance.
The facility is for people 18 and older, with the exception of the rock climbing wall, which allows families to bring in their children Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
“The wall was donated to us by the contractors who constructed the building,” Arnold said. “The times listed for people to bring their children in to climb on the wall are the only times people younger than 18 are permitted in the building, as this facility was created with the single Soldier in mind.”
The SAC also has a game and TV room equipped with flat screen TVs and Alienware gaming computers.
There is a library inside the building, which sees roughly 200 to 300 people a day.
There is also a pool outside the building that is open from May to September.
The SAC also offers rentals of different equipment ranging for bikes to any gear you would need to go camping.
“Our rates for rentals are extremely reasonable,” Arnold said.
Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers has an office located within the SAC as well.
The SAC has many exciting trips planned out each year.
“Our mission is to provide the best service we can to the Soldiers and families here at Fort Bliss,” Arnold said.
